  • Infineon AURIX ™ development history

TriCore ™  Since its inception in 1999, the kernel architecture has gone through four generations of single core versions of microcontrollers, AURIX ™  It is based on TriCore ™  A multi-core architecture microcontroller with a kernel.

1) The first generation AURIX launched in 2014 ™  TC2x integrates up to three TriCores ™  Kernel.

The TC2x series microcontroller integrates a safety management unit (SMU) internally, which manages the safety of various modules inside the microcontroller. The power supply PMIC chip TLF35584 not only completes power supply, but also interacts with the microcontroller, paired with SafeTlib ™  The software can perform self inspection and monitor whether the microcontroller is running normally. In case of abnormalities, it can trigger a safety mechanism to put the system into a safe state.

2) The second generation AURIX launched in 2018 ™  TC3x integrates up to six TriCores ™  The kernel has elevated the performance of microcontrollers to a new level.

AURIX ™  The TC3x series microcontroller has excellent real-time performance, and all models can achieve the highest level of functional security ASIL-D. It integrates information security hardware encryption modules and powerful interconnection interfaces, making it particularly suitable for many automotive applications.

3) The new generation AURIX launched in 2021 ™  The TC4x series is the leading AURIX ™  The TC3x series provides a way to upgrade upwards.

It adopts the next generation TriCore ™  1.8 kernel, as well as a scalable accelerator kit for enhanced performance. This includes a new Parallel Processing Unit (PPU), which is a SIMD Vector Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that can meet the needs of various artificial intelligence topologies, including real-time control and radar post-processing, among other use cases. The scalable and highly compatible design of the product series allows users to adopt a universal software architecture, thereby greatly saving platform software costs.

AURIX ™  Overview of TC4x Application Fields and Features

AURIX ™  TC4x is aimed at a wide range of automotive applications, including the strong demand for functional integration based on domain control and zone control E/E architecture, supporting the development of electric transportation and autonomous driving through safety systems. Infineon's AURIX ™  TC4x provides enhanced connectivity, including advanced functional and information security, further solidifying Infineon's leading position in the field of highly reliable and secure automotive electronics.

In addition, the new SOTA (Software Over the Air Upgrade) feature helps meet the needs of host manufacturers for fast and secure vehicle to cloud connectivity, enabling on-site updates and diagnosis and analysis during vehicle use. New AURIX ™  TC4x series MCU supports 5 Gbit Ethernet and PCI Express ®  Waiting for high-speed communication interfaces, as well as new communication interfaces such as CAN-XL and 10BASE T1S Ethernet. The improvement of network throughput and connectivity provides customers with the performance and flexibility required to implement the new E/E architecture.

Sophisticated AURIX ™  TC4x ecosystem

Considering the increasing complexity of automobiles and the implementation of artificial intelligence technology, AURIX ™  The TC4x ecosystem has received great attention to ensure rapid product launch and ease of use. Infineon is collaborating with Synopsys to accelerate AURIX ™  Software development for the TC4x series. Synopsys Virtualizer for TC4x ™  The Development Kit (VDK) can be used for software development in earlier stages of the design cycle. Used for AURIX ™  Synopsys DesignWare for TC4x ®  ARC ®  The MetaWare toolkit provides the best compilers, debuggers, libraries, and emulators needed for developing software for PPU.

Other partners will also provide corresponding products and support MATLAB automatic code generation to achieve rapid prototyping development. Thanks to its cross generational scalable and compatible design, the existing AURIX has been used ™  MCU customers will shorten development time, accelerate product launch, and benefit from it. Significant hardware and software compatibility allows customers to widely reuse existing TC3x algorithms and ecosystems.
