Onsemi BS170’s Category - MOSFETs

MOSFET (Metal - Oxide - Semiconductor Field - Effect Transistor) is a semiconductor device widely used for switching purposes and the amplification of electronic signals in electronic devices. Due to the very small size of MOSFETs, they can be either the core or an integrated circuit and can be designed and manufactured in a single chip. The introduction of MOSFET devices has brought changes to the field of electronic switching.

Types of MOSFETs

The mainstream MOSFETs are mainly divided into four categories: planar power MOSFETs, trench power MOSFETs, super - junction power MOSFETs, and shielded - gate power MOSFETs (SGT).
(1) Planar power MOSFETs: They emerged in the 1970s. They are easy to drive and have a high operating frequency, but the chip area is relatively large and the losses are high.
(2) Trench power MOSFETs: They came out in the 1980s. They are easy to drive, have a high operating frequency, good thermal stability, and low losses, but the voltage resistance is low.
(3) Super - junction power MOSFETs: They appeared in the 1990s. They are easy to drive, have an ultra - high frequency, and extremely low losses. They are the latest generation of power devices.
(4) Shielded - gate power MOSFETs (SGT): They emerged in the 21st century. They break the silicon limit and greatly reduce the on - resistance and switching losses of the devices.

Common Applications of MOSFETs

(1) One of the main application areas: Charging piles
Charging piles are listed as one of the seven "new infrastructure" fields in China.
